UFC Introduces New Gloves that "Will Revolutionize the Game"

This Saturday, in the main event of UFC 301, fighters will wear new gloves that promise greater comfort and safety. The UFC has decided to renew the protections for the fighters' hands with the aim of improving the experience and minimizing risks.

New Gloves at UFC 302

In the next event, UFC 302, Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier will debut gold gloves. This change is not only aesthetic to differentiate championship fights, but the improvements go far beyond the visual. The UFC has been working on these new gloves for years and finally unveiled them ahead of UFC 300.

Secret Tests and Adaptation

The company secretly tested the new design during the final season of Dana White's Contender Series. After more than ten weeks of testing and almost two months of adaptation, the gloves are ready for their debut. All fighters competing from June 1 received the new material to adapt before their fights.

Evolution of Gloves

The gloves were first used at UFC 4 in 1994. Since then, they have undergone minor modifications, but never a redesign as significant as this one. Dana White, president of the UFC, stated that this change "will revolutionize the game." The new gloves will be lighter, adapt better to the hands, prevent injuries and offer maximum flexibility.

Innovative Features

The new design forces the hand to never be fully extended, reducing the risk of eye pokes. The hand adopts a more natural shape, with the fingers pointing downwards. In addition, the gloves fit better to the wrist and are more flexible, improving comfort in wrestling and grappling situations. The weight of the gloves varies between 3 and 4.9 ounces, depending on the size, and they are filled with foam in several layers for greater protection and freedom of movement.

Adaptability and Unisex Design

The new gloves eliminate the distinction between men and women, being unisex and available in ten different sizes to better fit the morphology of each fighter. This seeks to reduce gaps as much as possible and ensure a perfect fit.

Colors and Categories

In addition to the gold color for championship fights, black gloves will be used in other UFC fights, with red or blue ribbons depending on the fighter's corner. In other associated competitions, such as The Ultimate Fighter and Dana White's Contender Series, specific colors will be used such as black with the initials TUF and sky blue or red at the Road to UFC in China.
